Not what I payed for

I payed for this great game, and was very happy with my purchase. Today I wanted to check it out while I was back home and without internet access, only for the game to tell me I needed to connect to the internet to watch an ad? I payed for a nice port of a fifteen year old game, and I payed due to not wanting freemium ads like other older ports. Why didnt you just release a freemium version instead of replacing the old? I no longer feel like I can trust Sega with their apps, very unfortunate as Sonic has been a part of my life for over twenty years.
